Healthy Vermonters is a decade-long, data-driven project based on the national Healthy People framework. Each decade since 1992, starting with Healthy Vermonters 2000, the Health Department has chosen a set of population health objectives to track the health of Vermonters and set long-term public health goals.

Healthy Vermonters 2030

Healthy Vermonters 2030 is a dataset made up of indicators that tell us about the health and well-being of people in Vermont. The data are one way for us to measure the overall health of Vermont over a period of several years so we can understand whether our public health system is helping people in Vermont lead their healthiest lives.

  • This data will be updated every year, or according to the availability of the data source.
  • Information will be included about what the data means, and how it is being used by the Health Department and collaboratively with partners.
  • As much as possible the data will be broken down by geography (county and district office), and population demographics (including race and ethnicity, age, sex, gender identity, socioeconomic status, and more).

How to use the Healthy Vermonters 2030 data

Although the indicators can’t measure everything we want to know about the health and well-being of Vermont, the information is useful for taking data-driven action across the state. The data is helpful for many sectors, organizations, communities, and partners to see whether our collective efforts are helping people.

  • Use this data when you want to understand the well-being of your community or the people you serve to inform your strategies and activities.
  • Compare local data to state values, and between different populations to understand disparities and inform how we can all increase health equity.
  • Watch how this data changes over time to see the progress of our collective public health efforts.
  • Use the Healthy Vermonters data alongside the national Healthy People 2030 framework to see how others across the country are using data to implement promising practices for helping communities.
  • Use this data to prioritize funding and apply for grants to help Vermont address our biggest gaps in well-being.
