We connect tobacco prevention and quit partners with schools and community organizations throughout central Vermont. We are your local connection to the statewide 802Quits program and other resources. If you have questions about smoke-free housing, tobacco-related town zoning and policies or how to make your business or medical campus smoke-free, contact us and we can help you reach your goals.

Smoking rates in Vermont are declining, but they remain higher in some groups. Learn more about how we provide services and supports to those with the highest rates of smoking and tobacco use.

Tobacco Grantee

The Central Vermont New Directions Coalition (CVNDC) strives to educate and engage youth and other community members to reduce the availability of tobacco , increase content-neutral advertising and decrease exposure to secondhand smoke. Along with many other successes, CVNDC has:

  • Collaborated with the City of Montpelier to make its parks smoke-free.

  • Worked with many entities to make Wrightsville Beach smoke-free.

  • Joined forces with Montpelier Alive and the Montpelier Trash Tramps to support the installation of cigarette “buttlers” to clean up downtown Montpelier.

CounterBalance is a campaign directed towards the tobacco industry’s influence on youth and the damaging impact tobacco use has on community health.

Local classes for quitting tobacco are held at Central Vermont Medical Center. Classes are free with new classes starting every month. For more information, contact: Lisa Champagne, Self-Management Program Coordinator at 802-225-5680 or lisa.champagne@cvmc.org.
