Health care providers' referrals to You First are critically important to the wellbeing of our members. Data shows providers are the most common way members hear about the program.
Please refer any patients you think might be eligible. And remind all patients about the importance of preventive screenings.

Our Collective Impact
We partner with health care providers and their patients to identify risk factors and detect cancers and heart disease in their earliest stages, when lifestyle interventions and treatment are most likely to be successful. As part of the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program and the Well Integrated Screening and Evaluation For Women Across the Nation Program (aka WISEWOMAN), You First gathers screening data and reports to the CDC on a bi-annual basis. This data is used by the CDC to ensure continued funding from Congress for these critical programs.
State Impact
Since its start in 1995, You First has served over 13,000 Vermonters. Over 14,000 mammograms and nearly 16,000 Pap tests have been paid for by You First. More than 300 Vermonters have been diagnosed with breast cancer through the program, and over 300 have been diagnosed with cervical cancer or a pre-cancerous condition requiring treatment.
In an effort to be more inclusive and welcoming for transgender and gender non-confirming individuals, our program underwent a rebrand in 2019, changing our name from Ladies First to You First.
National Impact
Nationally, programs like You First have provided access to cancer screening for nearly four million low-income, under-insured and uninsured individuals. The program has provided almost nine million breast and/or cervical cancer screening exams over the past 30 years and detected thousands of cancers.
The national heart health program or WISEWOMAN served nearly 150,000 people in the United States between 2008 and 2013.
