Summary of 2024 Suicide-Related Emergency Department (ED) Visits and Deaths
- So far in 2024, the rate of suicide-related ED visits is similar to the previous three-year average. However, when broken down by age group, people aged 0–24 are experiencing a significant decrease in suicide-related ED visits. Those aged 25–44 are experiencing a significant increase.
- So far in 2024, residents of Rutland and Windham Counties are experiencing statistically higher rates of suicide-related ED visits compared to the rest of Vermont. Residents of Grand Isle, Essex, and Addison Counties are experiencing significantly lower rates of suicide-related ED visits.
- While trending lower, the rate of suicide deaths in Vermont for January - September 2024 was similar to the previous three-year average.
