EMS Classes and Trainings

Ongoing EMS training, certification and skill development are available to match your interests. If you are interested in enrolling in a class, you must contact the course coordinator. The Vermont EMS Office does not register students for classes.

Check out upcoming courses and continuing education for all license levels.

EMS Practical Exams

How do I register for a practical exam site?

To participate in a practical exam session, all candidates must register using the Practical Exam Registration Application in the LIGHTS online system.

Registration for an AEMT or Paramedic exam site requires a Practical Authorization to Test (PATT) number, which is assigned after completing an online application on the National Registry of EMTs website.

Regional Emergency Medical Services Coordination Study

The State of Vermont, Department of Health, Division of Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Injury Prevention has engaged Emergency Management Matters, LLC (EMM,) to design and implement a Regional Emergency Medical Services (EMS) coordination study culminating in a written report to be submitted to the Vermont State Legislature. This study will focus on identifying issues and provide recommendations for legislative considerations that will sustain and improve the provision of EMS for Vermont. This includes but is not limited to:

  1. Issues related to costs of service, cost effectiveness of various current service models, and cost-effective alternative service models.
  2. Existing funding models and identify long-term sustainable funding strategies.
  3. Challenges and opportunities related to local and regional emergency response coordination.
  4. EMS district structure, authority, duties, and the number of districts.

Your input is critical, which is why we are hosting several regional stakeholder meetings. EMM will also solicit feedback through targeted surveys, 1:1 interviews and more.
