Call Scam Alert: Important Information to Protect Against Scams (01/12/2024)

We’ve recently been reminded that scam artists continue to target physicians. A licensee recently let us know they were called by someone claiming that they needed to post a bond immediately or they would be arrested for not appearing for federal jury duty. The caller knew that they were a physician because they were referred to as “Doctor.” The Call Scam Alert sent by the Board last August offers advice on how to avoid being a victim. Please let us know if you are targeted and consider reporting it to the FBI (follow the link for info on reporting).

Telehealth Registration Requirement (01/10/2024)

During COVID Vermont enacted special provisions that allowed health care professionals to practice telehealth with patients located in Vermont. Initially telehealth practice was allowed with no requirement for a license or registration. Beginning in 2022, the law was modified to require registration for temporary telehealth registration. At the time that this is posted (January 2024), the COVID-19 temporary telehealth registration is still available. It will continue to be available until sometime in 2024. The exact date when this option will expire has not been determined, but expiration of the option will not occur earlier than May 1st. That is because the COVID-19 telehealth registration option will be in place for 90 days after administrative rules regarding new, permanent telehealth credential options become effective and the rule amendments were not placed on the schedule of the legislative committee that must review the rules. You may still register to practice telehealth but understand that this will be ending within the next several months. We will post more information about the expiration date as it becomes available and those who have telehealth registration will be notified by email when the end date of the COVID-19 telehealth registration option is determined.

Before you begin your registration, please read the "Instructions for Temporary Telehealth Registration" (click the link below). We recommend you print the instructions to use while you complete the registration process.

Anyone who is interested in learning more about the new options for telehealth practice that will soon be available can review the law, Chapter 56 of Title 26 of Vermont Statutes Annotated. Once the regulations regarding the new options are formally approved, we will be posting more information.
